What does the SPOT Foundation do?

We help improve the quality of life for people with musculoskeletal conditions who, for financial reasons, cannot afford their medical treatment.

How do I apply for aid?

To request help, you must complete the Aid Application form here and include the required documents.

What documents are required to send with the application?
  • Copy of the patient's birth certificate
  • Patient's photo (full body)
  • Copy of identification (driver's license/passport); if a minor, identification of the parent or legal guardian
  • Water or electricity bill
  • Proof of income
  • Proof of expenses
  • Copy of Income Tax Return
  • Medical/therapy order indicating diagnosis and equipment or treatment specifications
  • Certification of medical plan coverage
  • Certification of medical plan denial

How much in advance should I submit the application

If at all possible, we should receive the application one month in advance.

How long does the evaluation process take?

We try to complete the evaluation process as quickly as possible. Everything depends on us receiving the application and all required documents, as well as the corresponding quotes.

Do you make payments in the applicant's name?

No. Payments are not made out to the applicant or their representative. Payments are made directly to the supplier, hospital, or other entity.

I don't have health insurance, can I apply for help?

Yes. We specifically want to support people who do not have health insurance.

I have health insurance, can I apply for aid?

Yes. Medical plans sometimes have limitations on their coverage.
If you have a medical plan and the equipment or treatment you need is not covered, you must submit a DENIAL CERTIFICATION so that we can evaluate your request.

In which towns do they offer aid?

Any resident of Puerto Rico can request our assistance, regardless of the town where they live.

How old do I have to be to apply for assistance?

We offer help to people of all ages, from newborns to adults over 100 years old.

My condition is not being treated by an orthopedic specialist. Can another healthcare professional make the medical referral?

Yes. Any healthcare professional who treats musculoskeletal conditions can refer you (physiatrists, radiologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, rheumatologists, among others).
